Whether you’re an experienced writer or just starting your journey, this open call invites you to submit your script ideas and help you bring your unique vision to life on the big or small screen.
We are looking for bold and authentic stories that span across genres and reflect the rich heritage and dynamic identity of the UAE. We’re looking for comedy, horror, action, romance, drama, sci-fi – even anime and animation. Successful projects will receive development support, with the chance to move into full production. 1. Who is eligible to apply?
-This open call invites UAE nationals and residents aged 18 and older to participate. Submissions are welcome from both seasoned and aspiring screenwriters.
2. What types of script ideas are you looking for?
– We are seeking original film and TV ideas that reflect Emirati culture or are set in Abu Dhabi. These stories should showcase the unique heritage and evolving identity of the region.
3. Do I need prior experience in the film industry to apply?
– No prior experience is required. We encourage all storytellers, whether seasoned or new to the industry, to submit their creative ideas.
4. What materials do I need to submit?
– Applicants are required to submit a logline (a brief one or two-sentence summary of your story) and a script treatment (a more detailed outline of the plot, characters, and key elements of the story). You can find an example of a treatment here [LINK TO EXAMPLE]
5. Can I submit my script in any language?
– Submissions are accepted in both English and Arabic.
6. How do I apply?
– To apply, fill out the application form and attach the relevant supporting documents.
7. How many projects will be selected?
– This will depend on the caliber of submissions, but Image Nation plans to develop at least six of the most promising script submissions.
8. What happens if my script is selected?
-If your script is chosen, you’ll have the chance to collaborate with Image Nation Abu Dhabi to develop your project, with the possibility of it advancing to full production and becoming a feature film.
9. How can I ask questions or get more information about the application process?
– Image Nation Abu Dhabi will host an in-person or virtual session with the studio’s content team to answer any questions. Details about these sessions will be provided soon.
10. I have an idea for a script – but it doesn’t reflect Emirati culture and/or is not set in Abu Dhabi. Can I still apply?
– For the first cycle of this open call, we are looking for concepts that reflect Emirati or UAE culture and/or are set in Abu Dhabi. In the future, we may open the submission process to a broader range of script ideas – Stay tuned!
