“Al-Ansari has broken boundaries with his feature film debut Zinzana”; kind words from revered cultural website StepFeed as they name Majid Al Ansari in their feature on directors who are making Arab Cinema proud.
Zinzana is a psychological thriller which broke boundaries and had audiences on the edge of their seats.
From A to B director Ali Mostafa went as far to call Majid ‘the Emirati Tarantino’.
And Majid is not the only filmmaker putting Arabic films on the map. Acclaimed film Theeb from Director Naji Abu Nowar, has picked up both Oscar and BAFTA nominations for ‘Best Foreign Language’ film.
In addition to this, female Tunisian director Leyla Bouzid made her first feature film As I Open My Eyes (2015), which went on to win several awards at the Dubai, Toronto, Stockholm and Carthage Film Festivals.
This really is a special time for Arab Cinema with talented individuals such as newcomer Majid and long-time ambassador Hany Abu Assad receiving worldwide recognition.
Cinemagoers can also show their support for the Arab Film Industry online via the #SupportArabCinema campaign.
