IMAGE NATION AT SHEFFIELD INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY FESTIVAL

Team attends screenings, talks and Q&As with some of the leading names in the film world

Last week, members from our Documentary and Training & Development divisions traveled to Sheffield, UK, for a research trip at the fantastic Sheffield International Documentary Festival.
Doc team members Hanna Maki, Omar Butti, Lubna Bagsair, Head of Training and Development Alicia Gonzales and AFS Doc winner Amna Al Nowais attended screenings and talks from filmmakers around the world.
Highlights included the premiere of Academy-Award winner Michael Moore’s Where to Invade Next which was followed by a panel discussion with the man himself. Also in attendance were naturalist Sir David Attenborough in Conversation and a talk with Ken Loach following the screening of Versus: The Life and Films of Ken Loach – a revealing film documenting the career of one of Britain’s foremost filmmakers as he turns 80.
Lubna Bagsair said a highlight for her was the screening of After Spring – an in-depth look at one of the largest Syrain refugee camps. Following the screening, the filmmaker was joined on stage by a number of refugees who have been relocated to Sheffield.
