Saeed Salmeen Al Murry’s feel-good family drama Going to Heaven has been receiving international acclaim at film festivals worldwide in recent months.
In total it has appeared at 28 film festivals since its theatrical release in April 2016 including the Arabic Camera Film Festival in Rotterdam, Holland, and Malmo Film Festival in Sweden, which it is currently participating in.
In addition, the feature film which enlists an all-star Emirati cast and crew has picked up a number of prestigious awards on its journey such as the Special Jury Prize at Egypt’s Alexandria Film Festival; the Najiba Al Hamrouni Award at Kabes International Film Festival, Tunisia; and an Honour Mention for Best Actor for Jumaa Al Zaabi, from Figueira Film Art festival in Portugal.
Going to Heaven follows the story of young Emirati Sultan who feels at loss with the world. Limited by the constraints of his unkind Stepmother, he yearns for the warmth of his maternal Grandmother who has been estranged from the family. With the help of his best friend Saud, he embarks on a pursuit across the Emirates to find the missing piece to his puzzle, encountering fundamental life lessons along the way.
