FIRST EMIRATI FILMS NOW AVAILABLE TO DOWNLOAD ON ITUNES

Abu Dhabi, 19 April, 2015: Image Nation Abu Dhabi announced today that its slate of UAE-produced films will now be available on iTunes. Ali Mostafa’s From A to B will be among the first ever Emirati films to be available for download now on the Apple app.

Film Festival favorite Sea Shadow and box-office smash Djinn were also released on the download platform earlier this month.

The release is a breakthrough in the growing, widespread support of the UAE film community and represents the ongoing commitment of Image Nation to increasing awareness and accessibility of films from this region.

Michael Garin, Image Nation CEO, “We are immensely proud to be industry leaders offering Djinn, Sea Shadow, and From A to B  to customers on iTunes. We have strived to create a sustainable film community here in the UAE, and these films are really demonstrative of this commitment from being written, directed, produced and edited right here.”

From A to B, which was co-produced by twofour54 and Image Nation, was the first Emirati film to open the Abu Dhabi Film Festival last year and released theatrically throughout the region in January. Mostafa’s second feature film takes viewers on a journey of self-discovery with three friends on a road trip from Abu Dhabi to Beirut to honor a lost friend. The comedy/drama was also recently nominated in the category of Best Foreign Comedy Trailer at the prestigious Golden Trailer Awards, where it will compete amongst the likes of American Sniper, Selma and The Hunger Games.

“To have a film which was the first Emirati film to open the Abu Dhabi Film Festival, and now be one of the first Emirati films on iTunes is incredible.” Mostafa says of the releases. “It’s a fantastic move for local filmmakers and we’re so happy that our films are now as readily available as our Hollywood counterparts. I’d like to thank Image Nation and twofour54 for allowing me this great opportunity.”

Sea Shadow, produced in 2011, was Image Nation’s first Emirati feature film. Written by Mohammed Hassan Ahmed and directed by Nawaf Al-Janahi, the film follows two young Emirati teenagers struggling with tradition and convention on their journey towards adulthood in their small seaside town.

Djinn, directed by Tobe Hooper, the legendary director of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, premiered at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival in 2013. Set in Ras Al Khaimah, it profiles a young Emirati couple who are tortured by unhuman spirits in their new high-rise apartment built on the grounds of an old fishing village. The supernatural horror film set the record for best performing Emirati film ever in opening weekend.

All three films are being released digitally in partnership with distribution company, Front Row Entertainment.

Gianluca Chakra, Managing Director of Front Row Entertainment, said of the partnership: ‘We are extremely happy to be working with Image Nation on helping to promote UAE and Arab Cinema across the region. We also hope that through our iTunes deals, we will be able to export these titles internationally, which is still an untapped market.’
