‘Omnia’ by Amna Al Nowais scoops Audience Award Applauding COPING MECHANISMS at Utah Arts Festival
It has been a successful summer already for several of the final films from the AFS Docs program, which have seen screenings at an array of international festivals.
This week poignant short film Omnia by director Amna Al Nowais will be showing at Paphos International Film Festival (PIFF) in Cyprus along with Nouran by fellow classmate Nouran Al Chalati. PIFF is an annual independent short film festival which celebrates low budget productions from all around the globe.
The screenings follow a string of international selections including the Human District Film Festival in Serbia and the prestigious Utah Arts Festival, where four AFS Docs films showed as part of the ‘Fear No Film’ slate based on the theme of ‘Transitions’. Omnia by Amna Al Nowais, The Absentees by Tanya Daud, Skin by Farah Diab and Shadows by Mohamed Magdy were part of the 69 short films screening throughout the week. ‘Fear No Film’ films are chosen not within the traditional boundaries of genre, medium and style, but on how they embody an aspect of the central theme.
To top things off ‘Omnia’ has also scooped the Audience Award Applauding COPING MECHANISMS for its sensitive portrayal of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
